An Awsome Meal For Your Housemates!
SUBMITTED BY Lyn Reid | View(s) : 881

DATE SUBMITTED : Tuesday, 30 June 2009

Hate cooking but it’s your turn? Here’s something that’s easy, filling, good for you and doesn’t use the total share house kitty! You only need one big pot and a spare 15 min! Even though this is a daggy, 1960’s meal, all housemates will love it! Great for gym junkies, athletes, work-a-holics, students, bludgers, wi-fit pretenders, flu victims and hangovers!

Shopping…
2 big onions
2 sticks of celery
4 large carrots
2 parsnips (or 1 big one)
1 big turnip
1 packet of soup mix with lentils, beans etc
1ltr vegetable stock (in a tetra pack in the herbs and spices isle)
6 Chicken thigh fillets or 3 lamb shanks or 600g gravy beef (or no meat if you prefer)
Crushed garlic to taste

Ok, all you do is peel whatever needs to be peeled, wash vegetables, chop them up into smallish cubes and place them into the pot. Ad 2 cups of soup mix, cubed meat or whole shanks and garlic. Pour in stock. Add a little water to cover. Cover pot leaving a little space for the steam to escape. Place on med heat to bring to boil then immediately turn down to a gentle simmer. Have your housemates or guests keep an eye on it for 45 min whilst you take a bath or walk the dog. Then ad a little soy sauce and pepper to taste giving it a stir. Simmer ‘till beans are soft and meat is falling apart. It really doesn’t matter how long you cook it for as long as it only simmers not boils. A good idea is to use a slow cooker if your share house has one.

Serve with heaps of fresh bread or if you prefer you can thicken it up with some gravox and serve it with mash potato. You can freeze it so make double the amount and you will have another meal for your housemates or take it for lunch.
Yea, Yea, I know it sounds boring but give it a go. It tastes sensational and it’s easy! There will be hugs all round after this meal!
