Advertising on housemates.com.au is entirely FREE. This means both placing a share ad, (offering share accommodation) or putting up your profile (seeking accommodation). Advertisements can be as detailed as you like, and are displayed for a period of 3 months, after which time they are automatically removed. This ensures we only show up to date and current listings.

Are there any fees or charges at all?
Yes. Whilst advertising or listing your ad is free, we do charge for members to contact other members. We do this by using an easy and simple "credit system". In order to contact other members, you must first purchase credits. For more information about how our credit system works, please see below.

How the credit system works.
Ok, so you've done a few searches and found some really interesting people that you're keen to share with - now what? To get in touch with someone you need to buy credits. Credits are used to contact other members on housemates.com.au. How does it work?

• As you initiate contact with another member about their share ad you will be prompted to buy credits.
• Upon successful payment, you receive your credits and can then go about making contact.
• One credit allows contact with one other member, providing you with all of their contact information.
• You can then communicate with them freely via email, telephone or instant chat; depending upon what contact information they have provided
• Once you have contacted someone you wont be charged to contact them again, you have the ability to contact them freely at your own pace.
• Payment is processed via paypal. Once payment is made, you get your credits straight away. There's no waiting.
• The whole process is very easy, and we are always here to help you if you get stuck.

How much do the credits cost?
Housemates’ credits are very inexpensive and priced fairly with our members in mind. You can contact a potential housemate, literally for less than a cup of coffee! For a complete overview of our credit fees, see our pricing chart below.

Why we charge.
We would love to be able to provide this service completely for free, however thats just not possible given the amount of time, resources, people and money it takes to keep this site operational. In addition, we have to be able to be available to answer emails and phone calls to help members with their questions. As you can imagine, this is a full time job in itself.

How is payment made?
You can purchase housemates credits online instantly with a credit card, Pay Pal or via internet banking if you prefer. Please note that there are delays in acquiring credits using banking methods, as we have to wait for payment to clear at our end.

PLEASE NOTE - Making payment via credit card is immediate. Once payment is made, you will be able to begin contacting other members straight away.

Do you do refunds?
Refunds are typically not given, however we do make exceptions when necessary. It is important that you understand the process, and make purchase carefully.

Refunds will be given for ;

• Duplicate transactions.
• Billing errors.
• Products, goods or services not received due to an error on www.housemates.com.au's behalf

Creating your profile ad - 100% FREE
Let everyone know what you are looking for by filling in a few details about yourself. It is quick and easy – you are now only a few clicks away to finding the right share house!

Click on “Place an ad” and select “Create my profile”.

Complete your details and in the ‘Description’ area make sure you tell everyone a little about yourself, what you are looking for and your expectations. The more you say the more people will contact you. Upload a few photos as statistics show that you will receive 5 times more views. Photos are also shown on the homepage which will generate more views and interest for your advertisement.

Searching for your new share house
You can search for free by clicking on ‘Browse share ads’ then if you are not a member, complete your details as above.
Congratulations you are now a member! You can now search for your new share accommodation! Click on “Start looking for a share house” after uploading your photos or just click on ‘Browse share ads’ if you are already a member. Good luck!

Contacting a share house
When you find a room you like, click on the ad. After reading about the room, click on ‘Contact share house now’ and it will bring up the contact details. Good luck!

Found your new home
Fantastic! Click on the ‘Members area’ go to ‘Manage my ads’ and delete your profile. You may return in the future and place a profile ad or room to let ad by using the same email address and password. If you have forgotten either or both of these please contact me.

When you find a profile you like, click on the ad. After reading the profile, click on ‘Contact Housemate now’ and it will bring up the contact details. Good luck!

Found your new home
Fantastic! Click on the ‘Members area’ go to ‘Manage my ads’ and delete your share house ad. You may return in the future and place a profile ad or share house ad by using the same email address and password. If you have forgotten either or both of these just click on “forgotten password’ button or contact Lyn.

Getting a share house together
You can get a few people together by searching profiles and contacting like minded people to meet up and create your own housemate group.

Housemates’ is a private Australian web site. It is owned and operated by Lyn Reid and a small team of genuinely caring people. It is not run by indifferent individuals who don’t have a personal interest in my site and you’re business. We may be small but we certainly cover all bases when it comes to customer service. Commanding a less than 24 hour response time to emails and calls, we pride ourselves on answering all your questions promptly.
